Although travel may not be on the cards for any of us at the moment, we can still look forward to planning our next adventure. We have created our #Destinationdream feature, a weekly travel destination carefully chosen by the Parasol Store team, aiming to keep you (and us) inspired.
This week’s location is the Capital of Norway, Oslo. A beautiful city that perfectly combines the buzz of city life with the tranquillity of nature. Famous for its diversity, there are endless things to do and see, so here's our five must do’s to keep you dreaming.
Oslofjord
Visiting Norway and not seeing the famous Fjords would be a true crime. Although the Oslofjord isn’t as well-known as the more isolated cliffs in Norway, you can still take a ferry and island hop around Oslofjord. Via this route you can visit the likes of Hovedøya, Lindøya, Nakholmen, Bleikøya, Gressholmen and Langøyene - so there's plenty to choose from.
Opera House Roof Top
The Opera house which opened in 2008 is the very epicenter of Oslo and considered one of the greatest buildings in Scandinavia. Designed to be stood on, you can view the spectacular views of the city from the roof. If you're a lover of the arts and theatre, regular performances take place within and provide the perfect rest after a full day of exploring.
Vigeland Park
One of the most popular places to visit in Oslo is the Vigeland Park, the largest sculpture park to be made by a singular artist, Gustav Vigeland. The sculptures consist of naked human figures, in all variety of poses and situations creating a perfectly surreal, yet beautiful space. The park itself is free to enter and open all day, every day.
Urban Sauna
Norwegians are known to love a hot sauna combined with a cold water swim in the fjord. Unsurprisingly, there are many famous saunas in Oslo, however we suggest a visit to SALT. Priding itself as being a nomadic art project, these saunas are like no other, you can even watch a film or lecture whilst relaxing in the steam. The programme at SALT also includes concerts, art projects, debates, theatre, and more.
Holmenkollen
The Holmenkollen Ski Jump, perched on a hilltop overlooking Oslo, offers a panoramic view of the city and doubles as a concert venue. Under the jump is the oldest skiing museum in the world and the venue hosts a 361m zip line!
